Background

During wireline fishing operations, a pulling tool skirt backed off and was left in the well in an awkward position that rendered recovery with any standard off the shelf recovery tool, useless. Standard Magnets were considered and trialled without success. Peak were contacted and were asked to supply a 3.500" High Strength Magnet.

Challenge

The major task was to recover the fish which was awkwardly positioned to return the well to production.

Sequence of Events

The 3.500" High Strength Magnet was dispatched immediately and was with the client within one day of shipping. LIB runs were conducted to record actual depth and orientation of fish. The LIB was interpreted and it was found that the pulling tool skirt was lying on its side. The Peak Magnet was run and the skirt was recovered on the first run.

Value to Client

Recovery of the fish allowed the well to be returned to production. All operations were carried out without delay or incident & despite the position of the fish and lack of point contact, the magnetic flux was sufficient to ensure attraction was maintained. One run, One well returned to production. Time & money saved. Personnel exposure limited.
